It is a condition in which one or both eyes turn outward, towards the ear. This can be continuous or only occasionally, i.e. variable.<\/p><p class=\"MsoNormal\">In some of our patients, outward turning occurs only part of the day, especially when looking away or when distracted.<\/p><p class=\"MsoNormal\">In some of our patients, the onset of <strong>strabismus<\/strong> is slow, <strong>exotropia<\/strong>, which is intermittent at first, increases over time and may become permanent.\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section low vision eye<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section that is, patients with low vision in one eye.\u00a0 In patients with vision loss in one of the eyes, outward turning of the eye may occur over time. Unfortunately, this outward deviation is a major problem for a blind eye. For example, in a person who had trauma in one eye years ago, in a person with a problem in the nerve layer of one eye, or in a person with a permanent problem in the cornea, the eye may turn outward.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-1994690 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"1994690\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-large\">So, can the exotropia in the low vision eye be corrected with surgery?<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-d9a1654 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"d9a1654\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-decc442\" data-id=\"decc442\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f373b23 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"f373b23\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>We operate when there is <strong>exotropia<\/strong> due to vision loss and we achieve very successful results in many of our patients. Although low vision or lazy eye makes it difficult to achieve successful results by changing the surgical technique, it is still not impossible to get good results.<\/p><p><strong>The problem of exotropia<\/strong> in a blind eye is more difficult to resolve. For this reason, we first conduct a detailed examination in such patients.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section examination when our patients apply to us for strabismus. In these patients with good vision in both eyes, if exotropia gradually increases during the day, we may resort to surgery.<\/p><p>Another cause of exotropia is cranial nerve palsies.\u00a0 In these nerve palsies, the strabismus angle may increase in some gaze positions. Exotropia and upward deviation of the eye can be seen in fourth cranial nerve palsy. Another cause of exotropia is thyroid eye disease. Rarely, exotropia can be seen in those who have undergone <strong>esotropia (inwad strabismus)<\/strong> surgery in childhood.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-07d8c11 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"07d8c11\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-32e0e42\" data-id=\"32e0e42\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e03885e elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"e03885e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-large\">Exotropia treatment<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-19f689b elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"19f689b\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-b2fcc89\" data-id=\"b2fcc89\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a5c0c38 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"a5c0c38\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>In the treatment of exotropia, we first treat the cause. We achieve very successful results, especially by weakening the lateral muscles and strengthening the medial muscles.<\/p><p>When we decide to correct the external eye deviation surgically, the important point is how many eye muscles will be intervened. We determine which eye this surgical intervention will be applied to and the amount of intervention approximately during the preoperative examination.
