Skin and fat excess on the eyelid are the most common cosmetic problems related to the eye and eye contour. These problems usually occur with age. Eye aesthetic surgery is not a simple intervention and we eliminate these problems in the eyelid with blepharoplasty.
Eyelids are very crucial for eye health. Eyelid problems may occur due to congenital, trauma, nervous or age. Eyelid aesthetics are surgeries where we apply techniques that are very different from other plastic surgeries.
We perform eye aesthetic surgery under local or general anesthesia. The duration of the surgery ranges from about 30 minutes to 60 minutes. Recovery takes about 2 weeks and the eyelids return to their normal state after this period.
We perform eye aesthetic surgeries in operating room conditions, that is, in our center where the heart and respiratory functions of the patients are monitored. There is always an anesthesiologist in the operation.
Eye Aesthetics
Those with low eyelid (ptosis) try to see around by raising their eyebrows, which results in wrinkles on the forehead. Raising the eyebrows turns out to be a permanent facial expression and may cause headache.
Surgery done to remove fat or excess skin on the eyelid is called Blepharoplasty. We perform Blepharoplasty operations under local anesthesia. After removing the excess skin on the eyelids, the levator muscle should be strengthened in some patients. Performing this surgery, which is called ptosis surgery, is very important to ensure sufficient eyelid height.
Droopy eyebrows come along with droopy eyelids in some of our patients. In this case, it may be necessary to perform eye aesthetic surgery and droopy eyebrow operation in the same session.
The low eyelids cause the person to be perceived as tired or sick by the social environment. Some of our patients complain of constantly looking like a hangover. Bagging in the eyelids sometimes occurs at an early age, in this case the eyelids are swollen and tense. In such patients, we obtain very good results in terms of eye aesthetics by taking only the oils.
Eye Aesthetic Surgeries We Have Performed
- Upper eyelid blepharoplasty and ptosis
- Lower eyelid blepharoplasty
- Eyelid masses removal
- Lagophthalmos treatment
In eye aesthetics, we scrutinize carefully the condition of the eyebrows, skin thickness, the amount of fat on the lids and the muscle strength that lifts the lid. Only after this evaluation, we can plan the operation.
In order to get the best result from the eye aesthetic surgery, only taking the skin in some patients can be enough. However, sometimes the skin is thick or the fat packs are prominent and fullness. Thus, we need to change the intervention in the surgery.

After Eye Aesthetic Surgery
Eye aesthetic surgeries usually give good results. The success of the operation is possible with the correct and realistic information of the patient. As surgeons, our duty is to give our patients a healthy natural appearance by determining the appropriate eye aesthetic surgery technique.
What should I do after eye aesthetic surgery and how long is the recovery period?
- Applying ice at the end of the surgery will reduce swelling and bruising. For the coming 3 days, I recommend 20 minutes per hour when you are awake.
- It is necessary to sleep with the head 45-60 degrees above for 3 days after the operation.
- Some edema (swelling) and bruising on the eyelids is expected. Complete recovery takes around 15 days.
- You can take a shower 3 days after the operation.
- It is not recommended to swim for 2-3 weeks after the operation.
- If you wear contact lenses, it is recommended that you don’t use them for 2 weeks.
Will there be any scars after blepharoplasty?
If blepharoplasty surgeries are performed on the skin, they are made on the skin fold lines, so there will be no scar.
If the problem is only the under-eye bag, it can be done inside the eyelid.
There is no incision or stitch that can be noticed from the outside in eye aesthetic surgeries.
