Can every person with eye disorders have laser surgery?
Unfortunately, not every patient’s eye is suitable for laser surgery. Therefore, we perform a detailed eye examination for good vision after surgery, and we never operate on patients at risk. We perform this surgery in approximately 50% of the patients who apply to us for laser surgery. For people who are not suitable, we suggest contact lens or smart lens procedures.
What is the Age Limit for Laser Surgery?
Particularly, people between the ages of 21 and 35 are suitable for laser surgery. Also, another important point is that it is preferred that the eye-glasses number have changed less than 0.50 D or not changed at all in the last year.
Up to Which Eye-glasses Number is There a Chance of Laser Surgery?
This situation differs for each patient. However, in general, we can accept the limits as follows:
- Up to 10 or 11 diopters in myopia
- Up to 6 diopters in hypermetropia
- Up to 6 diopters in astigmatism
After mapping the corneal tissue, the maximum correctable numbers are determined for each patient. These degrees may differ from person to person.
Laser eye surgery provides the treatment of eye defects and a life without glasses after a short intervention.
What are the Surgical Methods used under Refractive Surgery today?
- LASIK surgery – Intralase Lasik (iLASIK)
- Smile/Relex
- Phakic intraocular lens (pIOL)
- Clear lens extraction (CLE)
Why are there so many methods? Which one should I choose?
The most suitable method for each patient can only be determined by a detailed examination and medical workups. LASIK surgery is the most preferred method worldwide for years because it provides rapid recovery and is credible.
How is Laser Eye Surgery performed?
Laser eye surgery starts with the application of local anesthetic eye drops to both eyes. After that, a femtosecond laser is used to create a flap, which means a layer. The eyelids are slightly raised. This is the only time you might feel a slight discomfort. Then we apply an Excimer laser to correct the eye disorder by reshaping the corneal tissue. We gently put the cover in place and then return it to its original position. As the flap will heal naturally, no stitches are needed here.
How long is the Recovery Time after Laser Eye Surgery?
Patients, who undergo laser eye surgery, begin to see clearly within 2-3 days and return to their normal lives. There may be pain or stinging in the first few days. These complaints vary depending on the type of surgery performed. The most painful operations are those without flap, in which the corneal tissue will be peeled off, and called no touch or PRK. There may be pain until the peeling on the corneal surface heals. We apply this method only to people who have thin corneal tissue and who are not suitable for LASIK surgery.
